As our regular customers know we have been in York’s Parliament Street over most of the summer while the old market place is/was being refurbished. We have now been told we will be returning to Newgate on Saturday 15th of November. You can find us pretty much where we were before, more or less backing on to the Shambles at the top end of the market.
We will, however, be trading in Parliament Street until and including Sunday 9th November.

Just a quick thank you to all our regulars (and irregulars!) who turned out at the weekend.
Mr Hargreaves managed to cop a handful of great metal albums and he’s coming back for more on Saturday. Nigel from Harrogate was back from his holidays and in the mood for adding to his already sizeable collection of amazing vinyl and CDs.
Kinky Dave brought us a random selection of top quality discs, as he says ….. ‘Well worth a sniff’ ….. say no more!!!
Paul at Inkwell paid us a visit, got to say I was at his place in Gillygate midweek and bought a fabbo Sonic Youth book …. nice one Paul.

As all my regular customers know the ‘vinyl revival’ is well and truly alive and kicking at BananaMoon Music in York. Furthermore CD sales are going really well too. There’s always that debate as to which format sounds best and vinyl seems to be winning. But CDs have many benefits ….. when’s the last time you played a record in your car on the way to work?
Now I’ve been a record collector for years and if I’m honest out of the two I play loads more CDs than vinyl. I think its mainly down to the ease of use more than a preference for the depth of sound. I also think sometimes we all get carried away with the ‘romance’ of the ‘traditional’ record. The artwork, the look of the vinyl, perhaps even the smell of an old record ….. all in their own ways special to the true vinyl collector.
So what has sparked the vinyl revival, I’ve got my own theory and its nothing to do with consumer demand!!
But I’ll write another post later in the week and hopefully it might be the start of another talking point!!

Update on Stevie Ze: We should have some ‘Dancing With Spiders’ CDs on the stall this weekend. This is Stevie’s first solo album after a long stint as a professional musician since the age of fifteen! He’s picked up two gold discs on the way and played with loads of name bands throughout his career. Combining punk/glam/rock this is a great début and will soon be available to download from iTunes etc.
Stevie’s had a full on battle with addiction over the last few years and this album is a statement that he’s back and ready to give 100%.
We will be selling the initial batch of the CD at a very special price. So check it out and give it a review on this page.A5

Here’s a call for YORK bands to get in touch.
First of all we can (try to) sell your recorded masterpieces at BananaMoon Music, I think its fair to say that when we open for our regular Saturday and Sunday trading days at the Shambles market we get plenty of serious moochers with money to spend.
Secondly we are always looking for feature tracks for people to download from our FACEBOOK page.
Have a think about it and if you want to get in touch mail me (Phil) at bananamoonmusic@yahoo.com and we can get our heads together and progress matters.
Thanks for reading …. hope to hear from you soon.

After spending a lifetime in the analogue age I’m making a real effort to update the business. If you’re reading this you’ll see that the website is shaping up, so now its time to get FACEBOOK organised.
There’s already a few posts in place, hopefully, there will be regular updates.
Along with the usual BananaMoon info I am hoping to put music downloads of local bands, maybe a taster for an album or whatever. At the moment there’s a free STEVIE ZEE download ….. well worth checking out.
There’s going to be something a little folkyfied next week but its really cool …. don’t miss it.

We’ve just bought in a great collection of METAL and THRASH vinyl albums and some 12″ singles, there’s also about 100+ CDs. AS always all items are in superb condition and they will be priced to sell.
We won’t be doing a full list but we should be able to post a (partial) list of bands and some titles. So watch out for that in the next day or two.
